HEADLINE CPI

The headline CPI shows an increase of 1.1 percent in the March quarter 2017, compared with an increase of 1.8 percent in the December quarter 2016.
The headline CPI also shows an annual change of 6.0 percent increase from March quarter 2016 to March quarter 2017.
The quarterly percentage changes in the All CPI Towns are:

The graph shows Lae displayed the highest indexes of 1.4 percent while Goroka-Mt Hagen-Madang had the lowest index of 0.7 percent in the March quarter 2017.

UNDERLYING CPI

The underlying CPI shows an increase of 0.4 percent in the March quarter 2017, compared with an increase of 1.0 percent in the December quarter 2016.
The underlying CPI also shows an annual change of 2.1 percent increase from March quarter 2016 to March quarter 2017.
The quarterly underlying CPI excluding the three based measures stated below are:

December Quarter 2015

The quarterly increase from September Quarter 2015 to December Quarter 2015 was 1.9 percent. The annual increase between 2014 & 2015 December Quarters was 6.4 percent

March Quarter 2016

The quarterly increase from December Quarter 2015 to March Quarter 2016 was 1.6 percent. The annual increase between March Quarter 2015 and March Quarter 2016 was 6.5 percent

CPIJuneQuarter2015

The CPI rose 1.1 percent in the June quarter 2015, compared with a rise of 1.5 percent in the March
quarter 2014. The CPI Headline Index also shows an annual change of 5.7 percent increase over the twelve
months from June quarter 2014 to June quarter 2015.
